Our History

Since its inception in January, 1950, on the square in downtown Bainbridge, Georgia, BENNETT'S FINE JEWELERS, INC. has been counseling its many thousands of customers and enabling them to purchase loose diamonds, watches, and fine jewelry at very competitive prices. BENNETT'S was located for over 53 years in downtown Bainbridge, Georgia from 1950 - 2003 and relocated to 111 Stratford Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458 on December 26th, 2015.

The late Sophie W. Bennett began Bennett's Fine Jewelers as a risky $5,000 investment in the downtown shopping area on January 2, 1950, and over the next 60 years it has grown into a major, multi-million dollar business.

For 30 years, Don Bennett traveled 46 of the 50 states as a sales representative for three of the world's largest diamond and jewelry manufacturers located in New York City. It was during these years of 1963-1993 that Don not only sold to multi-million dollar retailers, but also acquired an extensive knowledge of the intricacies of the diamond industry. It was during this time that Don received the "Salesman of the Year" award in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981 from A. Jaffe, the "Salesman of the Year" award from the Jewelers of Louisiana in 1982 and the "Salesman of the Year" award in 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 from Jabel, Inc. Don successfully completed the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) Diamond Grading and Appraisal Course and was awarded the GIA Diamond Grading and Appraisal Certificate on August 18, 1981. While in the employ of A. Jaffe, a supplier member of the American Gem Society, Don Bennett was awarded the AGS Registered Supplier's Title on December 3, 1982, a title that he held during his employ by A. Jaffe and Jabel, Inc. (both members of the American Gem Society). He maintained the title of Registered Supplier, American Gem Society, from December of 1982 until January of 1994, a period of 12 years, until he retired from selling to multi-million dollar retailers on the road. Bennett's Certified Jewelry Appraisals are very detailed, furnishing complete information as to metallic weight and content, number, shape, and type of stones, each with a complete description of their individual size, weight, cut, color, and clarity, and with a very competitive replacement market value. Because these jewelry appraisals are so detailed, they are readily accepted, without question, by all of the major insurance companies.

Bennett's specializes in loose diamonds in all shapes, sizes, and qualities from $100 to $100,000. We have thousands of loose diamonds that are selected personally for you from cutters who maintain diamond cutting facilities in Antwerp, Belgium, Tel-Aviv, Israel, and Bombay, India.

We grade merchandise correctly, because we have both knowledge and ethics. One without the other is dangerous. The most knowledgeable person can deceive a customer if he does not adhere to the highest code of ethics.

At Bennett's each and every diamond is precisely graded for cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. We have over 100 years of combined experience in the diamond business to make sure that you get the best possible value for your diamond dollar.
